The Volkswagen Tiguan will reportedly be joined by an electric SUV called the ID.Tiguan, set to enter production at the company’s Wolfsburg plant in 2026.
Handelsblatt reports the electric Tiguan was green-lit at a works meeting held at Volkswagen’s main production plant.
The ID.Tiguan will reportedly be roughly the same size at the current internal-combustion Tiguan, which measures 4509mm long, 1839mm wide, and 1686mm tall, with a 2681mm wheelbase.
This means it will also be a similar size to the existing ID.4 electric SUV, which measures in at 4584mm long, 1852mm wide, and 1636mm tall, with a 2765mm wheelbase.
The German publication has indicated the so-called Volkswagen ID.Tiguan will be based on the revised version of the current MEB architecture, dubbed MEB Plus.
This platform is reportedly also set to be used on the upcoming ID.Golf, which will be revealed in concept form in March this year.
This MEB Plus platform will reportedly use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic battery cells, and support dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrains.
“The Golf is an icon – a whole generation was named after it,” said Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume.
“That’s why we also want to bring vehicles like the Golf and the Tiguan into the electric age.”
Mr Blume didn’t offer any further details about this upcoming Volkswagen ID.Tiguan.
In addition to this upcoming, electric ID.Tiguan, the company is also working on a next-generation internal-combustion model that’s been spied numerous times over the last few months.
Although the company has been experiencing setbacks – including the delay of its Trinity technological flagship from 2026 to potentially 2030 – Volkswagen still plans to introduce 10 new EVs by 2026 and cease European production of combustion-powered vehicles by 2033.
On the local front, Volkswagen Australia plans for EVs to account for more sales than its internal-combustion range as soon as 2028.
