Remember When Beyonce and Jay-Z Threw the Most Exclusive Wedding of All Time?

Inside Beyonce’s Private Life

They almost got away with it.

Ready to make their romance official six years in, Beyoncé and Jay-Z had set a date (April 4, a nod to their shared love of the number four and their Sept. 4 and Dec. 4 birthdays) and an ultra-exclusive, VIPs-only location: His seventh-floor 13,500-square-foot penthouse in New York City’s spendy Tribeca neighborhood.

She had a dress; he chose a tux and, with a whole team at their disposal, the 51-time Grammy winners the very definition of a power couple, it was easy enough to pull together the flowers, the DJ, the tent and all sundry wedding requisites.

There was just one small—but very crucial—detail that needed tending to.

Trying to quietly procure the necessary marriage license just ahead of the 24-hours-before deadline, they traveled to Scarsdale, N.Y., some 25 miles north of his city digs, on April 1 in hopes of flying under the radar.

Somehow, though, they forgot that they were Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Naturally, the Destiny’s Child frontwoman-turned-pop and R&B superstar and her billionaire hip-hop and everything-under-the-sun mogul fiancé were spotted entering the Scarsdale Village Hall shortly after its 9 a.m. opening, news outlets did some quick detective work and the race was on to uncover any and all information about the marriage of two of music’s biggest players.

Turns out we could have just waited for their joint 2014 On the Run tour, the couple treating fans to images and even video(!) from the day only 40 guests had enjoyed.

But with the world assuming the couple would keep their big moment as ultra-private as they’d kept their relationship, refusing to even confirm they were together until after they’d released the fairly telling “03 Bonnie & Clyde” and “Crazy In Love,” on that day no detail was too tiny to breathlessly report.

A massive tent had been erected on the 3,000-square-foot patio of Jay’s penthouse. A collection of flowers—70,000 of Beyoncé’s favorite white dendrobium orchids, shipped in from Thailand—were delivered, followed by a collection of candelabras and an SUV bursting with AV equipment. Finally, the sedans containing their equally famous guests arrived.

Ultimately, the day was not unlike what Beyoncé had described to Cosmopolitan a year and a half earlier, when she mused, “I don’t know when I’ll want to get married. I never pictured myself as a bride, but after my sister’s wedding, I did start thinking about what kind of wedding I’d want. I don’t think I want a big one.”

Destiny’s Child bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland (as guests, not bridesmaids as she’d once predicted) joined Gwyneth Paltrow and then-husband Chris Martin and roughly three dozen others at Jay’s penthouse, transformed into an all-white palace-like setting with trees and floating candles lining the aisle.

Bey stunned, naturally, in a strapless ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline, designed with the help of mom Tina Lawson, who told Today her daughter “was so sweet to let me” spearhead the wardrobe efforts. (On her fingers: Blue nail polish, a nod to the something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue wedding tradition and perhaps a hint about the name of her eldest child?

And judging by the snippets the couple have shared in the 13 years since—in her 2011 “I Was Here” music video, in 2016’s “All Night” and during their joint tours—that was far from the only jaw-dropper. “It was just beautiful,” a source told People at the time. “Gorgeous. Opulent.”

Guests tossed white petals into the air as Mr. and Mrs. Carter recessed back down the aisle of the tent, filled with all manners of flora and strands of crystals.

“It was a very emotional wedding—lots of crying—and really very spiritual,” a guest told People. And post-vows really, very, so much fun. Though neither of the hit-makers performed, they brought in a stellar line-up. “Everyone danced to a lot of hip-hop and oldies,” said an attendee, the Jackson 5- and Whitney Houston-heavy playlist keeping the party going until 5 a.m.

And though there was a strict “no social media” policy at the time, guests asked to surrender their Blackberries because it was 2008 and all, the two have since pulled back the tent curtain on their all-white-everything, dripping-in-crystals special day.

“It seemed like yesterday these guys walked down the Aisle,” Lawson shared in a 2020 Instagram tribute, posting a photo of the newlyweds joyfully being presented as husband and wife. Noting she was just out of frame, fluffing her daughter’s train, she continued, “Such beautiful memories of that day now it’s twelve years later! Three gorgeous babies later and love still prevails.”

Which, as Beyonce once said, is the point of it all, noting to Essence in 2008 how much emphasis people put on the material aspects of a wedding, stressing, “What Jay and I have is real. We’ve been together a long time. We always knew it would happen.”

Five million dollars worth of white orchids is great if you can swing it, but the fact that the parents to 9-year-old Blue Ivy and 3-year-old twins Rumi and Sir still feel crazy in love more than a decade later after everything they’ve gone through? That’s priceless.

The Challenge’s Ashley Cain Says His 8-Month-Old Daughter Has “Days to Live”

In Memoriam: Fallen Stars of 2020

The Challenge star Ashley Cain has some devastating news about his baby girl.

On April 8, he took to Instagram to update his followers on his infant daughter, Azaylia Diamond, who he shares with Safiyya Vorajee. It was just one month ago that Ashley, who appeared on multiple seasons of The Challenge’s Ex on the Beach UK as well as The Challenge: War of the Worlds, revealed to fans that the 8 month old’s leukemia had returned. In the new video posted online, he explained how, after multiple treatments to save his daughter’s life, there is nothing more doctors can do to help his little one.

“Last week, we had the bone marrow test and the lumber puncture and bloods taken to send to Singapore in the hope that they could create a CAR-T therapy to save Azaylia’s life,” he said. “Then, we had to have a CT scan on her head and the results came back the next day, saying that Azaylia’s got two very big tumors on her brain.”

He shared that chemo has failed to work and explained that even a “spinal tap” could be too dangerous for Azaylia, leaving the parents with no other treatment options.

“They think she’s only got one, two days to live,” the reality star said. “It could even be that night.”

Ashley added, “We’re going back home and we’re gonna try and make our baby as comfortable as possible. We’re gonna be strong, and we’re gonna go out with honor.”

On April 9, Ashley shared an Instagram photo of Azaylia taking a bath in the hospital, along with an emotional caption.

“9 days ago consultants told us my daughter had 1-2 days to live, but thought she may pass that evening,” he wrote. “Even with a barbaric disease consuming her blood, tumours in her brain and organs and amounts of pain I cannot imagine… She is still battling through 9 days later, with parts of the day with nothing but smiles despite her discomfort.”

He continued, “This is a testament of this little girls strength and the fight she has possessed all of the way through. She has fought a battle that not many, if any, of us could have endured and she’s earned the love and respect of many on the way. The truth is though, I hope and pray that I have earned hers! Even through the hardest and saddest time of my life, she has found a way to make it better. She has shined light on the darkest of days and she has opened my heart to amounts of love I couldn’t believe possible!”

Prince Harry to Reunite With Royal Family in U.K. for Prince Philip’s Funeral

Following the death of Prince Philip on April 9, the Duke of Edinburgh’s grandson Prince Harry is planning to fly overseas to pay his respects.

Remembering Prince Philip & His Relationship With Queen Elizabeth

Prince Harry will join the royal family overseas as they mourn the death of Prince Philip, multiple outlets report.

Following the Duke of Edinburgh’s passing on April 9, many royal fans began to wonder if the Duke of Sussex would make it home to the U.K. for his grandfather’s funeral, as he currently resides in California with pregnant wife Meghan Markle and son Archie Harrison. However, according to People, Harry is likely to be in attendance at the service, which is set to take place at his and Meghan’s wedding venue, St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

While it is not known if the Duchess of Sussex, who is due to give birth to a baby girl this summer, will join him on the trip overseas, the couple did honor Philip following his passing. “Thank you for your service,” read a message on their Archewell website, which is currently an in memoriam to Philip. “You will be greatly missed.”

If he does indeed fly to the U.K., Harry will reunite with his family for the first time since his and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the tell-all, which aired in early March, the couple opened up about the lack of support they felt as senior royals and detailed an alleged conversation the family had about Archie’s skin tone.

Days later, Queen Elizabeth II spoke out about the allegations. “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on her behalf. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Adam Levine and His Daughters Sport Matching Tie-Dye Dresses in Rare Family Photo

Twinning! Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo showed off their fun tie-dye dresses that perfectly matched their daughters’ outfits.

Do “The Voice” Coaches Miss Adam Levine?

When in doubt, think pink!

At least, that seems to be the motto in Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo‘s household. While the Maroon 5 frontman and Victoria’s Secret veteran are used to wearing chic designer ‘fits for their respective careers, the pair’s latest ensemble is really giving their fans heart-eyes.

The former Voice coach took to Instagram to share a rare family photo that captured him and his wife sporting the same matching dresses as their daughters—Dusty Rose Levine, 4, and Gio Grace Levine, 3.

In the sweet snapshot, the longtime couple and their little ones stuck a pose in their pink tie-dye dresses. The 42-year-old musician accessorized his pastel pink number with vibrant periwinkle-colored sneakers, while the 32-year-old model styled her outfit with bright yellow pants.

“girls just wanna have fun,” Adam captioned his post, adding the painting nails emoji.

The twinning moment was too cute for words!

The family’s fashionable photo comes two months after Behati celebrated Gio’s birthday in February.

“my bestie turned 3,” the proud mom shared at the time, adding three green alien emojis to perfectly capture their costume.

Both Adam and the supermodel tend to keep their kids’ lives out of the spotlight. While they share limited posts of Dusty and Gio, they rarely show images of their faces.

In recent years, the couple has also kept a low profile and has continued to remain private about their personal lives. However, around this time last year, they addressed rumors that their family was expanding.

Last March, the supermodel sparked pregnancy rumors after she uploaded a photo to Instagram that many of her followers believed was an ultrasound. At the time, a source told E! News she was “not pregnant.”

As the source explained, “It was one of her daughters that took her phone and posted accidentally.”

Following the speculation, Behati set the record straight, writing, “Guys. This is not an ultrasound lol. Dusty got hold of my phone and somehow posted this picture from my photo library i thought it was weird and cool and left it up. But everyone is now congratulating me on my 3rd pregnancy. it’s a close up of my black and white splatter sweat pants!”

With that, relive the couple’s cutest pics here.
